Another one of my must have electric guitar accessories for travelling guitar players..Behold, the Pocket POD!

I went into a guitar shop this week as a friend of mine was looking for an amp modelling guitar accessory to take with him on his trip overseas. He has a Traveller guitar that was very compact and wanted something he could plug his axe into and also a set of earphone, so he could practice without waking up the neighbourhood.

The only mini amp modelling gadget they had in the guitar store was the Pocket POD so I decided to try it out. To my surprise this little baby really did sound very good. Line 6 has managed to pack all the best tones and functionality from the bigger versions of the POD into the Pocket POD.

Most of the tones that I tested out at the shop were more than ample to use in any jam session, and to my surprise, they sounded even better than my Korg Pandora PX5D. The Pocket POD comes with aux input so you can plug your mp3 player in and practice along with backing tracks. The PX5D does this as well but it has the ability to slow down playback speed so you can a particular song at a speed you’re comfortable at – I absolutely love this feature! It is NOT available on the Pocket Pod however, how sad.

This unit comes with 32 amp models, 16 different cabinet types, and 16 effects that will give you more than enough range of sounds on a road trip. It also comes with a software editing program so you can create your own tones to suit your guitar playing style. Whether it’s Blues, Metal, Rock or Jazz etc, this thing handles it all. It runs on AAA batteries or an optional adapter which is not included.

I recommend the Pocket POD to those of you who are going mobile and for it’s price, it has very little negatives.

Go into your guitar store and have a try, see what you think.

” Which electric guitar accessories should I buy to start? ” – A question frequently asked in forums.

Let me answer that for you now. You don’t want to spend too much money till you get a better idea of what’s out there.

What you can do for starters is get a small amp that you can practice with and jam with, along with a decent quality guitar lead to plug your guitar in with. Get an electronic tuner as well as you’re definitely going to use it on a daily basis – You’ll have to tune up your guitar before every practice or jam session.

A comfortable guitar strap will be useful as well as some strap locks to make sure your straps don’t just fall off your guitar one day. You’ll also need some quality medium to thick guitar picks if you’re playing electric guitar. A spare set of guitar strings will be useful too just in case you get some string breaks. If you don’t already have one, grab a hard case as well so you can safely store your guitar whilst moving around.

That’s my list of must have guitar accessories. And don’t forget, you can also get your guitar accessories online, and they might be cheaper too!
