The Guitar Rig 3 amps modeling software is another one of my favorite electric guitar accessories. I bought this late last year and it’s simply the most awesome amplifier modeling software I’ve ever come across.

For those of you who are going to consider purchasing the Guitar Rig 3, be sure you have a computer with the minimum specs – This thing is cpu intensive! I’m running a Macbook Pro and it runs flawlessly.

The sounds / tones you get out of the GR are simply amazing. The most realistic amp modeling I’ve ever heard. I still have not mastered the entire software but I’ve got the basics down and the UI is very user-friendly. I mainly play rock, metal and Blues guitar and I just went to the Native Instruments forum and downloaded some of the guitar presets there. The forum members there are always helpful especially if you’re just new to the Guitar Rig software. This really helps your learning curve.

There are so many presets submitted by members, I pretty much could find any tone I wanted, both by set up rig and by my favorite guitarists. The most amazing tone I found was the ” Sweet Child ‘O Mine ” preset, and this one really sounds like the Marshall amp rig that Slash used back in the day.

Played around withe the new range of vintage Orange guitar amps too and they sounded really good. I’m no expert on Orange amplifiers but from what users have been saying on the Native Instruments forum, they seem extremely pleased with the sound replication that Guitar Rig 3 provides.

You will need an external sound card to utilize GR 3 properly as it’s also very sound card intensive. I actually purchased the ” Kontrol Rig ” edition which includes a powerful sound card within and that’s all you’ll need really.

All up, I spent about $550 USD on GR 3 and I’m really pleased with it. The only downside is that I had some questions with the UI and wrote to the Native Instrument tech support, and they took a few days to get back to me. But other than that, I give it a 9/10.
