You have probably seen many guitar tutorials that tell you to use power chords. What are they exactly? Power chords are fundamentally, two note chords compared to a full chord which is three notes ( with repeated notes in different octaves ). The power chords consists of 2 root notes, and a fifth interval.
The power chords are great in my opinion especially if you play on an electric guitar with lots of distortion. Try playing full bar chords with loads of distortion, and you will notice that most of the time the extra notes are not audible. In fact it might even sound really “noisy”. Power chords are really easy for a beginner to learn and they’re very playable all across the guitar neck, allowing for fast shifting of chords.
I will be doing some power chords guitar tutorials this further in the coming weeks to show you how easy they are even for a beginner to use, and best of all, they sound great with the volume jacked up!
