Guitar Accessories - Korg PX5D

I just bought the new Korg Pandora PX5D a couple of months back and I must say that I’m pretty happy with this purchase!

This guitar amp modeling accessory is a must if you’re a traveling musician who’s constantly on the road. It’s so small it fits easily into your pocket and it powers up on 2 ordinary AA batteries.

I found this unit totally easy to use after messing around with it for 1 day. It comes with a little manual and although the unit is simple enough to operate, I suggest you read the manual as you will find a lot of surprising extras and customizable options with the PX5D.

I’m playing through a Gibson Les Paul standard and I went through all the 100 preset sounds. I found about 10 of them were really awesome, but the rest were quite bland. Disappointed at first, I started tweaking the presets to my liking and produced many pretty sweet sounding tones. As a general rule, never rely on the damn factory presets!

The blues guitar tones I set up were nice and warm with decent sustain and the metal tones I set up were pretty grungy too. However, I did notice a few slight pops when I fired up the gain settings to the max.

The unit itself is quite durable and extremely light, encased in some sorta hard plastic / aluminum type material. It will probably be able to handle a drop or 2 and not be wrecked.

This guitar accessory does chew up a lot of juice though. You’ll probably only get 1.5 hours max of play time out of your batteries. As long as you keep some spare batteries with you, it’ll be fine. You can also purchase an optional charger unit from Korg to plug into the PX5D so it runs without batteries.

Overall, worth the purchase. Paid about $200 for it on eBay. Highly recommend especially if you want to be mobile.

Hi there, thanks for the review of this beautiful item. I’d like to buy it to, but I’ve a question before to proceed… Reading the manual I’m sure that You can loop the songs inside the PX5D but, what about the chains You create using the PX5D iteself or the software? I’d like to know if when You start a chain at the end it restart again (lopping indefinitely) or You’ve to start it again manually. If would be great to create a chain with more than one or two patterns that repeat itself again and again so You can improve on it… Can You answer my question?? Thank You very much!

      Hi Mario,

Yep you can create your own chains easily with the PX5D but honestly, they don’t sound all that great (to me anyway). The PX5D is great for training guitar though, and I use it mainly with guitar backing tracks slowed down to half speed so I can master the licks if they’re a bit too difficult and fast for me.

I’ve seen a function where you can loop the pattern/chain indefinitely but I honestly haven’t played around with it much. If you want better looping, check out the Boss GT range. They just sound so much better.
