Here’s a Youtube video that teaches you simple guitar chords that are commonly used in pop and rock songs. The chord progression comes from the song “Free Falling” by Tom Petty ( this by the way is one of the best free video lessons for “Free Falling” that you’re going to find ).

He goes through some really easy and simple strumming patterns at the end of the video so you can start jamming right away. This lesson is very much catered to the beginner guitarist and covers chords such as the Dsus , D and the Asus ( “sus” stands for “suspended”, I will cover that in future tutorials on my website ). These chords will come in useful to you later on.

I tend to apply the chord progression very often in my rock acoustic songs too.

I found the tutorial breaks it down easy enough for the beginners among you to learn this song rather quickly. The author of this video takes his time to explain the hand and finger positions required to play the Wonderwall chords, so it’s all very clear.

Be warned though, his singing skills aren’t all that great.

You have probably seen many guitar tutorials that tell you to use power chords. What are they exactly? Power chords are fundamentally, two note chords compared to a full chord which is three notes ( with repeated notes in different octaves ). The power chords consists of 2 root notes, and a fifth interval.

The power chords are great in my opinion especially if you play on an electric guitar with lots of distortion. Try playing full bar chords with loads of distortion, and you will notice that most of the time the extra notes are not audible. In fact it might even sound really “noisy”. Power chords are really easy for a beginner to learn and they’re very playable all across the guitar neck, allowing for fast shifting of chords.

I will be doing some power chords guitar tutorials this further in the coming weeks to show you how easy they are even for a beginner to use, and best of all, they sound great with the volume jacked up!

Here are some super simple guitar chords in the form of an easy chord progression. Many songs use this chord progression in the Key of G but once you’ve learned it, you can easily rearrange the progression in a different order to create another chord progression altogether.

These simple guitar chords in the key of G are commonly used together in western music and once you get a hang of this, you can add some other chords like ” diminished ” to enhance the sounds you get.

Here’s a tip:

Play slowly to start off with. Let your fingers and your brain get used to forming these chords. Don’t go for the speed of chord changing just yet – that will come in due time.

Try to experiment with these chords too and see what other songs you can pick out that use some or all of the chords you learned in this tutorial.

I started learning rhythm guitar with this exact same beginner chord progression in my arsenal and I hope you will be able to progress from here on too.

I will be posting more simple guitar tutorials chord progressions in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
