Les Paul has one of the most accomplished electric guitarists since his career started in the 1930′s. The Gibson Les Paul guitar is one of my great loves and I hope you will share a silent moment with me for it’s creator.

The Magnedyne has no active electronics so your guitar tone is as true as can be. This pickup will be great for guitarists who frequently change their electric guitar pickups to obtain different tones.
Dunlop released a great guitar pick as part of it’s guitar accessories range. The difference with this pick is that it uses tortoise shell and it comes with a nice and sharp tip designed for very fast and accurate picking. The pick is supposed to be more durable and gives you more control and a speed gain.

The “Ultrex Sharp” guitar pick was featured in the June 09 copy of Guitar World and was voted in the top 25 category of coolest products released in 2009.I’ve not yet tried this pick out but I’ll be getting a couple to test over the next few weeks for sure. Will this pick live up to it’s claims?

You can read up about this on the official<a href="http://www.jimdunlop.com"title="Jim Dunlop Website" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> Dunlop website.

Affordable Band Guitar Accessories – A guitar picks Review

Just starting a new band or already have one and you need to promote it? A fantastic way to get the word out is to get your band equipment and accessories personalized.

I’ve been to many live gigs where the band would throw out some free shirts or guitar picks at the end of each show to promote themselves.

The crowd just love getting some sort of memorabilia at the end of the show to remember the great band that just made their night special.

Where can you get these personalized band accessories you ask? Well, you’re in luck!

This month, Best Badges from the UK have sent us at Guitar Tutorials Now a huge sample of their guitar picks for evaluation.

The picks came in so many different materials and colors, and just about all the guitar pick designs that you see in guitar shops were here in the sample pack.

The assortment of picks came in various thicknesses and were made out of really decent quality materials. My favorite were the 0.75 mm sharp tip ones.

On the guitar picks face, were different logo examples and all of them showed up really nicely on the surface. I did a scratch test with my fingernails and the logos weren’t coming off anytime soon.

Best Badges not only print on the front face of the guitar pick but also have the option of having a different logo on the back – perhaps a signature of the artist?

The prices offered for customized accessories at Best Badges are very reasonable too!

If you’re after some personalized band accessories, check out <a href="http://www.bestbadges.co.uk"rel="nofollow" > Best Badges – They have super friendly staff there and most of them are musicians themselves who play in bands, so they’ll probably know exactly what you need.

PS: They even do customized drum skins…

The next best thing to owning a sweet guitar is having your own set of personalized guitar accessories.

Imagine going to a jam session and having your own set of customized accessories, with your name or logo on it..your friends would be so envious!

I came across this website called ” Pick Factory ” today. They specialize in creating picks with your very own customized design or logo on them. They’re prices are about $52.00 USD for a set of 50 personalized guitar picks. They do smaller quantities too but it will be much cheaper to buy bulk as once your custom logo is done, it doesn’t cost them much more to print extras.

You can get your custom picks molded too so that they rise up from the surface of the pick and provide you with extra grip so that it doesn’t slip out of your hands when you’re strumming. Their standard gauge ranges from 0.6mm to 1.0 mm. Needless to say, you can also choose your own colors. I’ll definitely be ordering a set of these for myself soon, just got to design a logo of my own first!

Stay tuned, as I will be reviewing more personalized guitar accessories and gear so those of you guitar fanatics can really go to town with this..

The Guitar Rig 3 amps modeling software is another one of my favorite electric guitar accessories. I bought this late last year and it’s simply the most awesome amplifier modeling software I’ve ever come across.

For those of you who are going to consider purchasing the Guitar Rig 3, be sure you have a computer with the minimum specs – This thing is cpu intensive! I’m running a Macbook Pro and it runs flawlessly.

The sounds / tones you get out of the GR are simply amazing. The most realistic amp modeling I’ve ever heard. I still have not mastered the entire software but I’ve got the basics down and the UI is very user-friendly. I mainly play rock, metal and Blues guitar and I just went to the Native Instruments forum and downloaded some of the guitar presets there. The forum members there are always helpful especially if you’re just new to the Guitar Rig software. This really helps your learning curve.

There are so many presets submitted by members, I pretty much could find any tone I wanted, both by set up rig and by my favorite guitarists. The most amazing tone I found was the ” Sweet Child ‘O Mine ” preset, and this one really sounds like the Marshall amp rig that Slash used back in the day.

Played around withe the new range of vintage Orange guitar amps too and they sounded really good. I’m no expert on Orange amplifiers but from what users have been saying on the Native Instruments forum, they seem extremely pleased with the sound replication that Guitar Rig 3 provides.

You will need an external sound card to utilize GR 3 properly as it’s also very sound card intensive. I actually purchased the ” Kontrol Rig ” edition which includes a powerful sound card within and that’s all you’ll need really.

All up, I spent about $550 USD on GR 3 and I’m really pleased with it. The only downside is that I had some questions with the UI and wrote to the Native Instrument tech support, and they took a few days to get back to me. But other than that, I give it a 9/10.

The Gibson Safety Strap is one of Gibson’s recently patented guitar accessories.

This 2 inch-wide electric guitar strap is made out of nylon and like all of the Gibson gear, it is of ” decent ” quality.

The side of the strap is wrapped with leather to prevent fraying and the strap itself will set you back $15 USD, perhaps a little less if you buy it from an online guitar accessories shop.

With any guitar strap, you should NEVER go without strap locks, and the same goes for this Gibson Safety Strap. When I put this on my guitar, it felt secure enough but after a while, the strap holes would work itself loose and I’m pretty sure sooner or later, my Les Paul would just slip out. So strap locks are a must-have!

The straps come in two colors: Black and red. I would personally recommend the black one as the red one seems to be super bright in normal lighting conditions and looks a bit too outstanding for my likings.

On the comfort side, I’d give it an 8/10. I had my Gibson guitar hanging off my shoulders for an hour of so with this strap and it didn’t hurt. I wouldn’t call it the most comfortable of straps but it is pretty decent. I still prefer my leather Martin guitar strap compared to the Gibson. For the price though, I wouldn’t complain.

Another one of my must have electric guitar accessories for travelling guitar players..Behold, the Pocket POD!

I went into a guitar shop this week as a friend of mine was looking for an amp modelling guitar accessory to take with him on his trip overseas. He has a Traveller guitar that was very compact and wanted something he could plug his axe into and also a set of earphone, so he could practice without waking up the neighbourhood.

The only mini amp modelling gadget they had in the guitar store was the Pocket POD so I decided to try it out. To my surprise this little baby really did sound very good. Line 6 has managed to pack all the best tones and functionality from the bigger versions of the POD into the Pocket POD.

Most of the tones that I tested out at the shop were more than ample to use in any jam session, and to my surprise, they sounded even better than my Korg Pandora PX5D. The Pocket POD comes with aux input so you can plug your mp3 player in and practice along with backing tracks. The PX5D does this as well but it has the ability to slow down playback speed so you can a particular song at a speed you’re comfortable at – I absolutely love this feature! It is NOT available on the Pocket Pod however, how sad.

This unit comes with 32 amp models, 16 different cabinet types, and 16 effects that will give you more than enough range of sounds on a road trip. It also comes with a software editing program so you can create your own tones to suit your guitar playing style. Whether it’s Blues, Metal, Rock or Jazz etc, this thing handles it all. It runs on AAA batteries or an optional adapter which is not included.

I recommend the Pocket POD to those of you who are going mobile and for it’s price, it has very little negatives.

Go into your guitar store and have a try, see what you think.

Fast Fret is one of my top must-have of guitar accessories. I love it!

If you don’t know what it is, it’s basically a guitar string lubricant that you glide on your strings via a little applicator. It cleans your strings as well as helps to make it slippery so your fingers slide on the strings much more easily. Some guitar players don’t like to use string lubricant accessories but for someone like myself, it’s essential. Why?

My hands sweat plenty when I play guitar, and hence my strings corrode at a much faster rate than other people. After a week of changing strings, they get rough and it gets harder to slide without catching. Fast Fret just eliminates all those problems for me and helps string longevity. This is especially good for electric guitars but not so much acoustic guitar strings as I found out.

If you find that your strings are corroding fast, then this is the guitar accessory for you. Take my word for it.

I just bought the new Korg Pandora PX5D a couple of months back and I must say that I’m pretty happy with this purchase!

This guitar amp modeling accessory is a must if you’re a traveling musician who’s constantly on the road. It’s so small it fits easily into your pocket and it powers up on 2 ordinary AA batteries.

I found this unit totally easy to use after messing around with it for 1 day. It comes with a little manual and although the unit is simple enough to operate, I suggest you read the manual as you will find a lot of surprising extras and customizable options with the PX5D.

I’m playing through a Gibson Les Paul standard and I went through all the 100 preset sounds. I found about 10 of them were really awesome, but the rest were quite bland. Disappointed at first, I started tweaking the presets to my liking and produced many pretty sweet sounding tones. As a general rule, never rely on the damn factory presets!

The blues guitar tones I set up were nice and warm with decent sustain and the metal tones I set up were pretty grungy too. However, I did notice a few slight pops when I fired up the gain settings to the max.

The unit itself is quite durable and extremely light, encased in some sorta hard plastic / aluminum type material. It will probably be able to handle a drop or 2 and not be wrecked.

This guitar accessory does chew up a lot of juice though. You’ll probably only get 1.5 hours max of play time out of your batteries. As long as you keep some spare batteries with you, it’ll be fine. You can also purchase an optional charger unit from Korg to plug into the PX5D so it runs without batteries.

Overall, worth the purchase. Paid about $200 for it on eBay. Highly recommend especially if you want to be mobile.

” Which electric guitar accessories should I buy to start? ” – A question frequently asked in forums.

Let me answer that for you now. You don’t want to spend too much money till you get a better idea of what’s out there.

What you can do for starters is get a small amp that you can practice with and jam with, along with a decent quality guitar lead to plug your guitar in with. Get an electronic tuner as well as you’re definitely going to use it on a daily basis – You’ll have to tune up your guitar before every practice or jam session.

A comfortable guitar strap will be useful as well as some strap locks to make sure your straps don’t just fall off your guitar one day. You’ll also need some quality medium to thick guitar picks if you’re playing electric guitar. A spare set of guitar strings will be useful too just in case you get some string breaks. If you don’t already have one, grab a hard case as well so you can safely store your guitar whilst moving around.

That’s my list of must have guitar accessories. And don’t forget, you can also get your guitar accessories online, and they might be cheaper too!
