Guitar Tutorials Now Author
Hi! Mark here. Thanks for checkin’ my Guitar Tutorials blog out.
I’ve been playing electric guitar for the last 2 years seriously and I can understand how frustrating it must be when you’re first learning how to play guitar.
With the right type of training and persistence though, I was able to improve so fast that it really freaked my friends out.
Don’t give up is my advise. I had many frustrating moments where I didn’t understand some things, and there were months where my brain just didn’t want to coordinate with my fingers but I kept on going. Why? Because it was so much fun! ( Though it really sounded like crap for the first few months I started playing guitar ).
A quick story.. I have a friend from Spain and he’s an awesome guitarist. When he first started, he trained something like 6 hours every single day for 9 months religiously. And by the end of the 1 year mark, he was shreddin’ so fast it was mind-blowing!
The bottom line..try to enjoy your guitar playing because that’s the point of it all. The more you enjoy it, the stronger your will-power and the longer you will persevere.. Until one day “ Click! “ – things just fall into place for you.
The length of time it’ll take for you to reach a decent level where you can start jamming with other musicians will solely depend on you, as well as the type of training you do. Practice the wrong way and you will not see any super fast improvement.
From fellow guitarist to guitarist, I hope I was able to pass down some of my tips and advise to you.
Wishing you all the best in your guitar shreddin’ success,
Mark

hey man thanks for your courteous encouragement. I’ve been trying to learn guitar from past 7 to 8 months and i think i have become a little skillfull in basic chords and few barre chords too..but practicing lasts for only couple of weeks and then for next few weeks im just totally frustrated and i don’t even feel like picking up my guitar. And posts like yours, makes up my mind to keep practicing. Thanks again.
one more advise, do your think it is wise to spend money on online tutorials? I have a tutor already. but i think he is loosing interest in teaching me because, im kinda have long intervals of not practicing.
Thanks again!!!!
Hi Bharat,
All I can say is keep trying. When you reach your 1 year anniversary, you will notice a vast improvement compared to the year before. The trick is to train consistently, even if it’s just a few minutes a day. It’s frustrating but every guitar player who has been successful goes through the same thing as you. If you give up now, you’ll never get to experience the joy of playing guitar.
The only advise I can give you is, that if you’d rather learn at your own pace, ( if you’re busy and stuff ), then get yourself a guitar course on dvd which you can follow along with. It’s a lot easier that way as you can take your time to review each lesson. With an instructor, you’ll have to remember everything he teaches you and by the time you get home, you would have forgotten 50% of it. It’s a waste of money in my opinion. When I first learned guitar, there weren’t any guitar tutorials on dvd, so I just had to buy books and learn that way myself. These days, the kids have it easy…
All the best,
Mark
